Dear Hill-Robert Parents and Students,
The year went by us in a flash as we rolled out the new Reading Street Program as part of our English Language Arts curriculum. Students learned a lot and their progress was measured every step of the way. All of us look forward to our summer vacation and I hope you’ll make reading a vital part of your son or daughters’ summer activities. Research shows that those students who continue to read over the summer are less likely to loose skills and will progress at a quicker pace when they return to school in the fall. This is especially true for our early readers in grades one and two!
Summer reading lests were sent homeqith students at the end of June. The summer reading lists were books recommended by the Attleboro Public Schools. Over the summer, Mrs. White will visit the Attleboro main library on the following dates to facilitate a discussion about the following books. Please consider reading these selections and joining her for one of the discussions!
Time Book
Thursday July 10th 11:30 AM The Children of the Red King
Monday July 14th 11:30 AM Crazy Summer
Tuesday August 5th 1:30 PM The Captive
Tuesday August 12th 1:30 PM Don’t Eat the Teacher
Also enclosed in this summer reading packet are some postcards. Please encourage your child to write to us over the summer about the books their reading, where they were read, and what they liked best about the book. Feel free to take some pictures and enclose them in an envelope to us and we will post them up on the Hill-Roberts web site and include them in our Fall Bulletin Board for Reading! If you want to send your digital pictures to us, you can send them by email to cwhite@attleboroschools.com or mjoseph@attleboroschools.com along with a quick update of your reading activities!
We look forward to the possibility of seeing you at the library over the summer and in the classroom in the fall! Have a safe and fun summer!
