Day One....the beginning of animals
Dear Parents,
This letter is to inform you of an upcoming activity. In class, your son/daughter has been diligently researching an animal. There have been zoo magazines available for research and many students picked up books at the HR library. We also used the laptops to gather some information. Thank you to those of you who brought your children to the public library for additional research materials.
The next step in our project is to build a model of the animal. We will be doing this in class beginning on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. I have been encouraging the children to gather up containers, boxes, or anything they think will be helpful. I would ask that no one goes out and spends a lot of money on materials. I will have all the basic art materials available at school. If you would like to make a paper mache model at home, we can paint it at school. I also told the students they could do a painting instead of a 3-D model if they prefer. Please feel free to send in any donations for others that you may have. Toilet paper tubes, paper towel tubes, shoes boxes, tissue boxes, etc.. would come in handy. I am planning to work on this Wed- Friday in class from 12:35-1:15. If anyone is volunteer trained and would like to come
in and assist us with the projects, that would be great. Drop me a quick note or email. Please feel free to email me any questions you may have.
Please don’t have students do this at home during vacation unless it is the paper mache base. I want to encourage the children to do as much in school as possible. Thank you so much!
Ms. Puccio
P.S. We are in dire need of tissues and glue sticks if anyone is out shopping during vacation. Have a great week.

I can't believe another month of second grade has already gone by. I apologize again for the absence from my website. We have been moving right along in our curriculum. We are currently in week 4 of unit 3 in Reading Street, and Unit 6 in Math. Everyone has made great progress so far and we will continue working together to achieve more.
As many of you probably already know, we have begun some book club groups in the classroom. Students are grouped with others who read at a similar level and are working together to read a book and discuss it. We will be completing some end of book projects once students finish. More details to follow later on the projects. So far the book clubs have been a smashing success. It is beautiful to watch a room full of readers.
We will also be getting back to some more map work. Another activity that this group just really loves to do.
I am working my way to invite some of the volunteers in to help. It would be great to see each reading club have a sort of "advisor" to read along and discuss with the group what is going on. If this is something you may like to do, it is from 10:20-11:20 daily, let me know via an email and I will work on getting you in. Thanks so much!
As always we are in need of tissues if anyone would like to send in a box. It is greatly appreciated. I can't keep them in stock!
Check your blue folders soon for a notice about Feb. 12 and an upcoming activity!

Merry Christmas everyone! Thank you for all the great conferences. My students are all very lucky to have such wonderful parents. If anyone didn't get a chance to come in, I will be available after vacation. Have a happy, healthy, and restful vacation!

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone has a restful and happy holiday. We have just wrapped up week three in unit 2 of Reading Street. We also did lesson 4-3 in math today. I am thrilled with the students' progress so far this year. The class is very well-behaved and productive. I am looking forward to the remaining part of Nov/Dec and a very exciting 2010!
We are in need of more boxes of tissues if anyone is out during the break and would like to pick some up. Thank you so much!
Tuesday night is Hill-Roberts night at USA skates. I hope to see you all there! I will be there taking pictures.
