It's August 24th.  Where does the time go?  I've been to school a few time trying to arrange the room.  You never really know how things will work until we begin moving around.  My class list has changed a little already.  Two students have moved from our district so we're down to 22.  This probably won't be for too long.  I'm sure new children will be moving in our community.                                                                                                    The letters notifying you of placements were mailed out last week so I can now welcome Esai, Devin, Jayson, Seth, Daniel, Lilian, Brian D, Emily, Ryan, Belisse, Samantha, Ashley, Brian M, David, Korey, Thomas, Isa, Mollee, Marissa, Casey, Skyler-Ann, and Shawn.  I'm so happy.  Most of you I know.  Third grade teachers check out the second graders all year hoping that we will get "special students" for third grade.  I hit the lottery!!!!  We have the best group of children in all of Massachusetts.   THE WORLD even.  September 2 is going to be the beginning of the best year ever.
I was just listening to the news.  They were talking about school supplies and how expensive they  are.  Please don't worry, we will have more than enough of everything you will need.  Don't bug your parents.
Well, I am going to start going through my Solar System material.  We'll begin studying the sun and the planets right away.  Do you have a favorite planet?  What's with Pluto?  Is it a Planet?  Why or why not?
If you have any books on the Solar System and it's okay to bring them to school, bring them in the first day or so.  I have around 60 books so we'll have plenty.
See you soon.

Thanks to the effort and kindness of Mr. Joseph, I can
tell you that the children will have physical education at 10:15 on Wednesdays.  Lunch will be at 12:05 every day, so we will be having snack around 10:00.  Because school is starting earlier the children will need an energy boost by 10.
More to come.
I have the spelling and the vocabulary words all set for the children's planners.  My daughter, who types much faster than I can, has them printed on labels.  I hope this idea works.  Now it's up to youi to encourage the children to practice using them a little every day.
Hopefully everyone has remembered to collect Box Tops during the summer.  Last year the parent group kindle offered a pizza party to any class who had the most Box Tops three months in a row.  Ms. Wells was able to reach this goal.  This year it will be Mrs. Monson's class.
Some of you may be starting to get your school supplies for September.  DON'T bug your parents for all kinds of stuff.  I will have more than enough supplies for the whole class.  You let your parents worry about shoes, shirts, pants, skirts, etc. and I'll have all the pencils, erasers etc. that you need.  Please don't spend money on supplies.
We will be having a snack on the first day of school.  We will take a break around 10:30.  Try to make it a healthy snack (apple, banana, yogurt ...)
Well, I have to go.  Be back soon.
is August 8, and I've begun planning for September
and beyond.  I have some new ideas for working with your child's planner that I am hoping will make it easier and quicker for the children to have the weekly vocabulary and spelling words at their fingertips.  The planners will need to be signed nightly so I'll have a colorful sticker that will remind the children to ask you to sign.
I have also begun to make notes for Open House.  It is scheduled for September 23 so please start to plan now.  Hopefully, I will get a chance to greet and meet all of my families.  I find myself smiling as I am writing this - that's a very good sign.  I totally enjoy the summer vacation, but WOW
I have a great class!
Hello!
Welcome to Mrs.Monson's Grade 3 Web Site for the 2010 - 2011 school year.

The children had an amazing time today watching a butterfly emerge

from its chrysalid.  I told them I would information on this web page, but I couldn't get on line at school.  I do not have the information about the butterflies at home so I'll bring my computer to school tomorrow to do it.  Have a greatnight.

The children brought a newsletter home today to help explain the happenings in our classroom.  I will be putting the information of the web-site sometime this week.

Reading Street Information
To get the information on the reading selection, vocabulary, spelling words, and skills covered for the week, you can go to the Grade 3 web-site.  It will be updated every six days.

Poems
The children have learned their first poem of the year.
The Seven Continents

To learn the seven continents
Think of the letter "A".
When your down to only one
"E" will save the day.

There's Africa, Antarctica,
Australia, Asia too.
The oceans run between them
With their waters deep and blue.

There's also two Americas,
North and South you see.
Now you're down to only one
And Europe starts with "E".
