This week we are starting our Reading Street first grade unit one. This means that we will be having spelling homework on Mondays through Thursdays.

Math homework will begin gradually and is almost always a review of skills we have practiced in class. I also include practicing the Decodable Readers. These are small booklets that review the spelling words, sight words and phonics for the week. These are wonderful for practice. I like to see the children read these at least 3 times each over several days. These little booklets help children become more fluent readers and they really work! Homework in first grade should not take over 15 minutes. If your child is struggling to complete homework, please contact me and we can make some adjustments. I will talk a little bit about homework on Thursday night at open house.

I look forward to seeing many parents Thursday evening! You may always contact me by calling the school and leaving a message, writing a quick note and placing it in the yellow homework folder, or emailing me through this web site.
