12709_82401_0.pngCollege Day at Hill-Roberts
Sophomore Year
December 22, 2009

On Tuesday, December 22, 2009, third and fourth grade students at Hill-Roberts Elementary school will be going back to college!  This will be our second year (sophomores) having college day. The morning of December 22, 2009, our students will attend two classes, taught by Hill-Roberts professors, which they have pre-registered for.  After a rigorous morning, our third and fourth grade students will be in the ìcollege cafeteriaî having lunch and listening to a presentation about ìexpectations for college studentsî.  It is never too early to set the expectation of going to college and setting a goal for our students.

Parent Volunteer Protocol

We would like to extend our thanks to all our school volunteers. We value the help we receive from parents/volunteers enormously and realize that we would be unable to provide such quality experiences for the children without your time and expertise.
We want our school to be open and welcoming to all who would like to support the children. We also want to encourage parents and other adults to help teachers in a variety of ways. However, our overriding concern is for the safety of the children in our care.
The Hill-Roberts School Council in cooperation with a volunteer protocol focus group (made up of parents and teachers) developed a volunteer protocol that was implemented into our school starting January 20, 2009.   This protocol sets out our schools expectations, which is to ensure that the children benefit from as much help and support as possible, and are provided at the same time with the best possible security.
Starting Tuesday, January 20, 2009, only volunteers who have attended a short (15-20 minute) volunteer training has been eligible to volunteer in the school during the school day.  Our goal is to provide numerous training opportunities during September and October to accommodate all our new families and all our new volunteers.  We will continue to offer training session to increase the volunteers we have at Hill-Roberts.  This is a one-time training and any volunteer who attend last year does not have to attend an additional training this year.

Please check here for upcoming trainging dates

2010 Census
The 2010 Census — a count of everyone living in the United States — is fast approaching! Census questionnaires will be mailed or delivered to every household in the United States in March 2010.

We are working on lesson plans, maps, teaching guides, and other informational materials to help teachers and students learn about the importance of the Census.

Visit the census website often to keep up with the latest information and materials available from Census in Schools and the 2010 Census.
