Book Fair - December 1st through December 8th
The PTO held our first Scholastic Book Fair of the year this past week, with all students having a chance to visit during their weekly Library times. The fair was also open during the evening of the Parent-Teacher conferences. Thank you to Mrs. Cotsalas, our school Librarian, for all of her support. Thank you also goes out to all of the many parents who volunteered to help run the fair. A special thanks to our two Book Fair co-coordinators, Lisa Stors and Kristin Descheneau. The profits from the book fairs are use to support our amazing Library and our numerous reading initiatives! |

Harvest Hoopla - Saturday, November 1st
On Saturday, November 1st, the PTO sponsored the 3rd annual Harvest Hoopla. Abput 400 hundred Hill-Roberts families and staff came out to enjoy the festivities...
The music was provided by our brand new DJ equipment. Thank you goes out to Keith Morry for being on resident DJ and for keeping the music and dancing going all night. DJ games were held throughout the night, with winners for the Mummy Wrap, Pass the Pumpkin and Monster Mash Dance-off contests.
There were Harvest Games for the younger students, and our all new attraction this year, the "Haunted Hallway". The Hallway was specifically designed for the older children. A guide brought those brave of heart through the mansion of the mad scientist to experience the fun and surprise found behind every turn. Thank you goes out to all of our actors and actresses, many of which were returning 5th grade Hill-Roberts alumni. A special thanks to all those who helped to set up and to break down the Hallway. A very special thanks to both Carol and Jay Dancer, who allowed their garage to be transformed into the "Haunted Hallway" manufacturing area for the month leading up to the event.
We held our 2nd annual pumpkin carving/decorating contest, with winners each receiving a pair of movie tickets in the categories of silliest, most original and most school spirit.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered to make this event suck a huge succes. And thank you to the Harvest Hoopla committe and to Carol Dancer, the event Chair! |

BACK TO SCHOOL ICE CREAM SOCIAL!!! - September 2nd
On the day before the first day of the new school year the Hill-Roberts PTO continued our tradition of welcoming the staff and families back by sponsoring the third annual Back to School Ice Cream Family Social.
This great event was the idea of event chair, Lisa Stors, and was presented to Mr. Joseph back in 2006. He quickly bought into the event understanding that it would provide a first opportunity for the parents and students to meet their teachers, as well as the other school staff.
Each year we have been very lucky to have perfect weather, and this year was no exception. The turnout was once again great, with more than half of the school's families coming out to enjoy the music, games, popcorn, and of course, ice cream. In year's past we invited the local Radio Disney party patrol to provide the music and games, but this year we decided on trying something new. The PTO used the same funds to purchase our very own DJ equipment, which will now be used for all of our events.
Thank you to all of the volunteers and school staff that helped make this an event to remember, and a special thanks to the Ice Cream Social Committee members and Lisa Stors, the event chair!

WELCOME BACK
On behalf of the Hill-Roberts Elementary PTO I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all parents, guardians, students and staff back for the 2008-2009 school year. For those new to Hill-Roberts, the Parent-Teacher Organization is a non-profit group consisting of ALL parents and guardians of children attending Hill-Roberts, as well as each member of the professional staff.
Our mission is to promote open communication and understanding between the parents and staff, and we are dedicated to enhancing and maximizing the education of every child while aiding them in achieving their highest potential.
We hold our meetings on the second Tuesday of every month at 7pm in the school library, at which we discuss events, fundraisers and enrichments for the upcoming school year. We encourage everyone to become involved in any way that you can. I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.
Remember, it is never too late to get involved! Jim Stors PTO President |
